In-person Requirement

Effective July 1, 2023, the U.S. Department of State requires exchange visitors in the following categories to participate remotely no more than 40% of the time while they are in the U.S.: Professors and Research Scholars, Short-term Scholars, Specialists and Student Interns. 

• A fully or predominantly virtual exchange program is not permitted. 
• Host units are required to provide to ISSS the site or sites of activity of J-1scholars including remote sites such as their homes.
