Submit your application to CU Denver between Oct. 15 and 17 and your $50 application fee will be waived.
Welcome to the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus. You will join nearly 1,500 international students and scholars from almost 100 countries. We hope that your time here will be both rewarding and supportive of your personal and professional goals.
Now that you have received Form(s) DS-2019, paid the SEVIS fee, applied for J-1 and J-2 entry visas (citizens of Canada and Bermuda are exempt), and made travel arrangements, the information below will prepare you for arriving in the U.S. and the first steps after you arrive.
J-1 transfer-in scholars do not pay the SEVIS fee again or apply for visas. The DS-2019 will be issued after the transfer-in date.
To obtain a Colorado ID or driver's license, visit the DMV, bring required documents, and if applicable, pass the necessary tests; certain international licenses can be converted without testing, but legal status verification might require additional steps at the main DMV office.
All J-1 scholars and their J-2 dependents in the U.S. must file an annual tax form. If no income was earned, file Form 8843. New employees or stipend recipients must meet with the International Tax Office. The office offers limited free access to Sprintax for filing nonresident tax returns, and resources are available to help prepare for tax-related appointments.
