The U.S. Department of State recently announced that beginning Dec. 15, 2025, it will conduct reviews of the online presence for all applicants of H-1B and H-4 dependent visas. This is similar to the student and exchange visitor visa applicant process which is already subject to review. According to the notice, “all applicants for H-1B visas, and their dependents (H-4), are instructed to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media profiles to “public.”

ISSS encourages H-1B employees and their dependents to carefully consider the need for international travel and assess their individual situation.
