H-1B Social Media Review Process as of Dec.15, 2025
Jan 12, 2026
The U.S. Department of State recently announced that beginning Dec. 15, 2025, it will conduct reviews of the online presence for all applicants of H-1B and H-4 dependent visas. This is similar to the student and exchange visitor visa applicant process which is already subject to review. According to the notice, “all applicants for H-1B visas, and their dependents (H-4), are instructed to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media profiles to “public.”
We encourage all H-1B employees to frequently review the ISSS Immigration Updates webpage to stay alert to potential policy changes as well as find helpful planning guidance such as:
- Requirement to Apply for U.S. Nonimmigrant Visa in Country of Nationality or Residence
- International Students and Social Media
- U.S. entry restrictions for citizens of certain countries
- International Travel Worksheet for important guidance
- Create an Emergency Action Plan
