Employer Responsibilities

Always cooperate with FDNS Officers. Non-cooperation with FDNS Officers may have serious consequences for the university. University personnel should request verification of FDNS Officers' identities during site visits.

What Happens During a Site Visit

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regularly conducts unannounced visits to the site(s) of employment listed in the H-1B petition as part of its Administrative Site Visit and Verification Program. Site visits are carried out by Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate (FDNS) Immigration Officers, who verify compliance with the terms and conditions of H-1B employment.

Each site visit is conducted for one randomly selected approved H-1B petition and H-1B employee. Employers with multiple approved H-1B petitions, like the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz, may be randomly selected for multiple site visits.

FDNS Officers conduct the following tasks and prepare a report during site visits:

  • Verify the information and documentation submitted in the H-1B petition
  • Verify the employer exists
  • Review the employer’s public records and information
  • Visit the worksite(s) unannounced
  • Review documentation
  • Conduct interviews to confirm the H-1B employee’s work location(s), physical workspace(s), hours, salary, and duties
  • Where applicable, speak with the H-1B employee
  • Where necessary, conduct telephonic or electronic inquiries
