When to Refer

Worried about a student? Noticing changes in their behavior? Want to talk with them about what's going on but not sure how to approach them? Scared they'll get into trouble if you share your concerns?

When you become worried about a student, deciding when to intervene can be confusing. Additionally, the number of resources available to assist students can be overwhelming. The CARE Team is here to help. .

When in doubt, submit a concern or call 303-315-7306 for consultation.

It's always better to err on the side of caution and report behaviors you think may be of concern. If there's an imminent danger to the safety of the student or others call 911 or the Auraria police immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

While anonymity is not always possible or in the best interest of a student, if you wish to remain anonymous the CARE team will do its best to honor your privacy.

Common Misconceptions of Remaining Anonymous

Anyone can submit a CARE report. Whether you are a student, staff, faculty, friend, or family member, if you have a concern, please report it.

The main goal of the CARE team is to offer support and assistance. If you are contacted by our team it means there is a concern for your well-being or the well-being of someone you know. Safety and security is our first priority, not punishment.

As soon as you have a concern, report it. CARE reports can be submitted 24/7. You can call, go online, or come in to our office. If you have a concern, don’t wait. There is never a bad time to show concern for a student.

We offer all kinds of different support and resources beyond academics. If you have a concern of any kind, please submit a report.

About Us

The Campus Assessment, Response & Evaluation (CARE) Team was created to address the health and safety needs of students and the campus community. We assess whether individuals pose a risk to themselves or others and intervene when necessary. More generally, we identify and provide assistance to those in need.

The team takes a preventative approach to risk assessment by offering resources, referrals, and support to both the concerning individual and those impacted by their behavior.

The Campus Assessment, Response & Evaluation (CARE) Team is committed to improving campus safety and student success at both CU Denver and CU Anschutz by proactively and collaboratively managing situations and individuals that pose, or may reasonably pose, a threat to the safety and well-being of the campus community. The team coordinates with students, faculty, and staff as well as concerned others. We use objective and thoughtful approaches to identifying, assessing, and intervening with individuals of concern.

Balancing life and school can be difficult. At CU Denver, every student matters. The CARE team was created to help you navigate a wide variety of life’s challenges. We help students create plans to confront difficulties while providing support and resources to keep you safe and successful. Together we can help you get through difficult times and get back on track.

The team operates under the Division of Student Success and reports directly to the Dean of Students. Both CU Denver and CU Anschutz have established CARE Teams.
