Beth holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, a master’s in engineering management, a Master Black Belt in Six Sigma, and a PhD in civil engineering, all from the University of Colorado Boulder. With more than 26 years at the University of Colorado, she brings extensive experience in quantitative and qualitative research, assessment, evaluation, and continuous improvement of higher education. She previously led the Offices of Academic Planning, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Assessment, as well as campus-wide accreditation, and policy. Beth is the co-executive sponsor of the CU system-wide Data Governance and Management project and serves as CU Denver’s Data Governance Executive. She knows that IT and Information Services are crucial for university success by providing essential tools for engagement, personalized learning, and seamless support, enabling better access to resources, timely interventions for struggling students, career readiness skills and efficient administration, ultimately boosting retention, graduation rates, and overall student, faculty and staff well-being.
Outside of CU Denver, she also oversees assessment and evaluation for ASPIRE, an NSF-funded Engineering Research Center and is the external evaluator for other research projects. A dedicated community volunteer, she supports STEM initiatives for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds and serves as an ABET Program Evaluator. From 2019–2022, she contributed as a member of the National Academy of Engineering Committee on Sharing Admissions Practices that Promote Diversity in Engineering. Outside of work Beth enjoys traveling, cooking, watching movies and spending time with family. She has two teenaged sons that keep her busy with sports!
