Reminder: You must submit a certification request every semester you plan to use your benefits. 

A conditional credit is a temporary credit placed on your student account for the amount the university expects to receive from the VA. It appears on your bill as: 

“Due From VA Chapter 31 Sponsor” 

This amount may change. If it’s reduced, you’ll be responsible for the remaining balance. 

Common reasons for changes: 

You’ll be notified by email if your conditional credit is adjusted. 

If you’re a Colorado resident and your Purchase Order has been received in Tungsten, the credit is typically applied within 3–5 business days of submitting your certification request. 

If you’re a non-resident, the credit will be applied between census and the first payment due date, after your tuition and fees are finalized. 

The VA only pays in-state tuition and fees. If you’re classified as a non-resident, you’ll be responsible for the difference.

Yes, but the VA is considered the last payer. Per VA regulations, the university can only certify the net cost of in-state tuition and fees after the application of any waiver, or reduction in, tuition and fees and any scholarship, or other Federal, State, institutional, or employer-based aid or assistance that is provided directly to the institution and specifically designated for the sole purpose of defraying tuition and fees. 

Examples of funding that reduce your Chapter 31 coverage: 

You can still use these resources, but they will reduce the amount the VA pays. 

Note: Pell Grants and loans do not reduce your Chapter 31 benefits.
