Microsoft Defender for Endpoint protects against software threats like viruses, malware, and spyware to help keep both personal files and university systems safe.
As part of the CU system negotiated licensing with Microsoft, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) has had the opportunity to test and select Microsoft Defender for Endpoint as the university’s new antivirus solution. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint protects against software threats like viruses, malware, and spyware to help keep both personal files and university systems safe.
Beginning Monday, June 20, OIT will begin uninstalling McAfee (the current antivirus software) and engaging Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on all Windows operating systems managed by the university.
Deployment of the new antivirus security solution will continue through the month. If you are logged into your system, you will be prompted to restart your computer once the update to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is installed. This phase of engagement only includes Windows operating systems; MacOS and Linux computers will be addressed during the next stage.
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint runs behind the scenes and is designed to have minimal impact to your workflow by running in the background and only alerting you when a risk is present. Installation of Microsoft Defender on university-owned devices is an additional step in a series of actions being taken to help protect our campuses from cybercriminal activity.
