Program Overview

Learn the fundamentals of executive coaching including how to create the conditions to explore equity issues and to have the opportunity to have difficult conversations within professional coaching and supervisory relationships. Develop coaching strategies to build trust within teams, departments, and organizations.

The Executive Coaching for Equity Certificate is a professional, non-degree certificate designed for leaders within organizations, school districts, non-profits, and institutions of higher education. Our approach at the University of Colorado Denver is to support working professionals in an engaging, blended format of monthly modules completed through asynchronous and live, interactive virtual sessions. Our research-based curriculum of best practices in coaching is aligned with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) coaching competencies. Participants will receive one-to-one coaching from an Executive Coach as part of their professional growth and coaching development.

Objectives

  • Learn the language, skills, and tools to use coaching as a lever for transformational change

  • Influence an inclusive culture with effective coaching practices

  • Meet proficiency in the ICF Core Competencies for Coaching

  • Coach clients

  • Practice professional coaching practices that build upon your team’s, department’s, school’s, or organization’s success

  • Learn how to support your organization's emerging leaders as a coach

Timeline & Structure

The next cohort for Executive Coaching for Equity Certificate begins with an in-person weekend in October 2023 and completes at the beginning of May 2024 with three face-to-face weekends; one in October, January, and April. Each month a virtual module will provide our coaching curriculum with a required two-hour, live Zoom call for in-depth discussions and coaching practice. Zoom calls will be scheduled with the cohort to ensure availability and maximum participation.

Participatory Commitment

This 8-month non-degree, continuing professional education certificate requires participants to complete one module per month and to practice coaching within an applicable, real-life context. Each participant needs to commit to approximately 15 hours per month between the learning materials and active coaching.

One-to-One Mentor Coaching

Participants will also have access to their own executive coach for individual coaching sessions each month to support their own professional growth as a coach.

Student Testimonials

I think one of the strengths of the program is the intensity of focus on coaching, developing the skills/practices of coaching and practicing coaching while also being coached. This focus in all aspects - learning about, practicing, being coached- was exemplary in both stretching my own skills and cementing them into my practice.

Cohort Participant

A benefit of this program was the opportunity to receive an executive coach for several months and to learn from their actual strategies and approaches.

Cohort Participant

The Executive Coaching for Equity program has challenged me to reflect on my own background, values and experiences. Through learning about myself, I am better equipped to support others. I believe that this journey of self-discovery empowered and prepared me to support leaders and organizations to create a more equitable environment in the workplace.
