EURēCA! Grants

• CU Denver undergraduate student

• Must maintain at least part-time status (6 or more credit hours) throughout the duration of the award 

• Available to present at annual Research and Creative Activities Symposium (RaCAS) each spring even if you graduate prior to this date
  

Only one EURēCA! Grant per person will be awarded in an academic year.

Regular and adjunct faculty from the CU Denver | Anschutz Campuses are eligible to sponsor one or more EURēCA! Grant students. 

Lecturer and instructor faculty must have permission of their department chair or program director.

Students may apply as individuals or as a team of up to three. Each student is eligible for $500 ($1,500 max). Teams should submit one application. Student details, unofficial transcripts, and personal development goals are required for each team member.

• initial support to the student in submitting the EURēCA! Grant application
• lead contact and support for projects utilizing human subjects, animal care, and/or project risk 
• support to initiate the project for fall or spring semesters 
• regular meetings with EURēCA! student(s) to review progress and oversee budget expenditures 
• support for Spring RaCAS presentation and final EURēCA! Grant report 

The letter could include the following: 

• assessment of proposed research, creative, or scholarly activity
• description of how the activity contributes to student(s)'s professional development
• assessment of student(s)'s academic preparation
• clarification of role as mentor

Each student is responsible for submitting a complete EURēCA! Grant application. This includes the online application and uploaded letter of support (Preview Full Application).

For team projects, teams should submit one application. Student details, unofficial transcripts, and personal development goals are required for each team member.

Application for Project-based Proposals:

   • Objective (100-150 words)

   • Analysis/Outcomes & Interpretation (100-150 words)
5. Bibliography (3-5 cited scholarly sources)
6. Project Timeline (specific dates)
7. Budget Detail (up to $500 for individual, $1,500 for team)
8. Faculty Mentor Letter of Support
9. If applicable, confirmation of IACUC and/or COMIRB approval

Application for Conference Attendance:

Students must obtain a letter of support from your faculty mentor and upload to the application. Applications will not be considered complete without this letter of support. 
 
The letter could include the following: 

• assessment of proposed research, creative, or scholarly activity
• description of how the activity contributes to student(s)'s professional development
• assessment of student(s)'s academic preparation
• clarification of role as mentor

Student Disclosure of AI Use: If students use artificial intelligence in the creation of their proposal, they must indicate the following:

1. The AI system's name
2. The strategy for usage (edit grammar, generate ideas, etc)
3. Prompts used
4. A list of specific sections containing AI-derived text or ideas

The EURēCA! Grant program is designed to provide the flexibility needed to meet diverse educational needs of undergraduate students from the CU Denver Campus. View Grant Proposal Rubric Here. 

Proposals are reviewed by a Faculty Review Committee. Selection criteria include:

• quality of proposed project
• clearly explained proposal sections
• ability to explain complex topics to non-experts
• quality of cited sources
• clear and detailed timeline
• clear and detailed budget
• faculty collaboration and mentoring
• academic preparation
• project potential for presentations and published papers

All awardees are required to: 

• Book at least one advising appointment or attend at least one event with the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities during the academic year of award

• Present the results of their grant-funded project at the CU Denver Research and Creative Activities Symposium (RaCAS)

• Complete a brief final report and program assessment at the end of the funding period

If selected for funding, the following agreements will be enforced:

• EXPENSES Students will use awarded EURēCA! funds only for the expenses detailed in the original Budget Narrative. Students will contact the URCA Office via undergrad.research@ucdenver.edu to confirm purchases prior to end of academic year.
  
• MENTOR APROVAL/PARTICIPATION Students' mentors must read and review the grant proposal and approve all aspects of the proposed research or creative activity. Mentors will support and mentor students through projects including regular meetings, budget oversight, and adherence to university policies and procedures.
  
• EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES All equipment and supplies purchased with EURēCA! funds become the property of the University of Colorado Denver. Items having a use beyond the grant project (e.g., video equipment, computer hardware, geologists’ hammers, binoculars ,etc) must be returned to the department of the Faculty Mentor.
• TRAVEL FUNDING I understand if I want to use grant funds for flights, trains, or car rental, (a) my mentor can receive the funds to to book via Concur and pay with a speedtype or (b) I will receives funds as a stipend and complete necessary purchases (no receipts or reimbursements needed).
• NON-TRANSFERABLE FUNDING AND CHANGES IN BUDGET EURēCA! funds are not transferable and must be used prior to the end of the 2024/25 academic year. 
  
• ENROLLMENT  Students must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester during the time the proposed project is conducted. If graduating or entering a graduate program during the length of the EURēCA! award, they are no longer eligible to receive funding.
  
• ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Students will acknowledge financial support received from the CU Denver Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities and the EURēCA! Program in any articles, presentations, exhibits, recitals, etc. that result from this funding.
  
• ENGAGEMENT WITH URCA Each awarded student will book at least one advising appointment or attend at least one event with the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities during the academic year of their award.
  
• RaCAS Students will present the results of the EURēCA!-funded project at the annual Research and Creative Activities Symposium (RaCAS) held each spring as a stipulation of EURēCA! grant funding. If graduating early, students are still required to present at RaCAS.
  
• FINAL REPORT Upon completion of the EURēCA! project, students will submit a final report, outlining project’s goals, process, and accomplishments. If graduating early, students are still required to complete this report.
