Program Overview

Prepares educators to become effective, knowledgeable, and technology-savvy math teachers. Features a proven and perfected residency program with partner schools. Graduates are equipped with state-of-the-art mathematics pedagogies, technology integration and reaching diverse students.

University of Colorado Denver’s MA in Teaching (MAT) with a Secondary Math (7 - 12) teaching license expertly prepares you to become an effective, knowledgeable and technology-savvy math teacher. Learning from dedicated teachers and award-winning faculty in a residency program perfected and proven through almost 30 years of ongoing work with partner schools make our program – and our graduates – stand out. Our goal is to help you have a transformative impact on student learning, creativity and achievement, while also supporting you as an innovator in your school and professional networks. We recognize the urgent need to outstanding math teachers. In addition, we’re all about preparing the finest! 

As part of this program, you will learn to fully engage students in your classroom by exploring: 

  • Theory and methods of math education 
  • Interactive, inquiry-based and inclusive math education 
  • Formal and informal math education 

Our faculty is top-notch with experience and expertise across a wide range of areas. They partner regularly on education projects/grants with the National Science Foundation. They also provide international perspectives on teaching and learning, and opportunities for interdisciplinary research. They will put you in touch with the latest theories, experiential math learning activities, and innovative teaching strategies.
