Multi-factor authentication and virtual desktopsJul 31, 2019
In the fall, OIT will employ MFA in conjunction with VMWare Horizon, the software that operates our virtual desktop service. There will be no changes to the university virtual desktop client and MFA will not be needed if you are using VDI on campus. However, if you are working off-campus, the new process will prompt you to authenticate with our MFA application Duo before accessing your virtual desktop.
Preparing for this change when using VDI is simple – if you’ve performed these steps for VPN MFA, you’re already done! You need to:
1. Install the Duo app on your preferred device (we highly recommend doing this on your smartphone).
2. Register for Duo from your laptop or desktop computer.
Visit our CU Secure special project page for more information about multi-factor authentication and better security for our critical systems at the university. For additional assistance with the new processes, you can access the printable pdf instructions for MFA or watch this short video about Duo created by CU Productions.
