Follow-Up on Announcement of Positive Case

March 19, 2020 @ 7:27 p.m.

We are writing with an update to yesterday’s announcement about a CU Denver student who tested positive for COVID-19 and to provide information regarding any future such cases. Yesterday, we shared that the student’s last day on campus was March 9; we now have information that indicates the student’s last day on campus was actually March 4. The student has been self-quarantined since that time.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic is now widespread throughout the community, public health officials are no longer conducting or recommending tracing those who may have been in contact with a person who has tested positive for the virus. Similar guidance has been issued by the Health Center at Auraria. In addition, these entities are recommending that notifications not be sent regarding future positive cases.

Public health officials will contact anyone who may have been exposed to a positive case only if they are deemed high risk based on age or health-risk factors.

If you have not been contacted by public health officials but believe you may have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, please follow the latest Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment guidance on what to do if you’ve had potential exposure.

We recognize that this latest protocol may not address all of your concerns. Please know that if public health officials feel you are at high risk, you will be contacted.  Otherwise, please continue to take the necessary precautions.
