Safe Return Weekly Update

June 25, 2020 @  10:56 a.m.

We write today with our first weekly update on our progress on implementing our safe return to campus plans for fall semester.

Gradual Return of Research and Creative Activities
A limited amount of research and creative activities (RCA) resumed on campus last week with enhanced safety protocols in place. Our initial pilot of building access protocols was successful; an average of 35 people per day passed through the health screening station at North Classroom, where they showed evidence of having completed the required Return to Campus Skillsoft training, signed a daily health attestation, and received an access wristband. RCA coordinators continue to receive applications and work with researchers to prepare safety plans for approval to return additional research and creative activities to campus.

Course Format Adjustments Nearing Completion
Faculty have been working to identify the proper formats for fall courses and the Registrar’s Office has been adjusting course schedules to reflect the new formats. This process should be finished by next week.

Students Surveyed; Forum Planned
Last week, we sent students a survey on course formats, student services, on-campus activities, technology needs, and concerns about this fall. We have received input from more than 3,300 students so far, which we will use as we continue to map out the fall 2020 semester. Students who are interested in taking the survey should look in their CU Denver email for a message from the Safe Return Team, which links to the survey.

We are planning for a virtual forum in early- to mid-July to answer questions from students and parents. Details to follow. We are also conducting an inventory of events and activities scheduled to take place this fall to determine the formats in which they can be offered.

Faculty Receiving Training In Online Course Delivery
Hundreds of faculty are taking courses to help them design and deliver online, virtual, and hybrid courses that are student-centered, effective, and engaging.

Discussions Beginning on Partial Staff Return To Deliver Essential Services
Staff units are beginning discussions about essential service delivery for the fall. A unit guide on staff safe return plans is expected to be available next week.

Campus Resources
As our phased return to campus progresses, you can stay up to date on our Safe Return to Campus website, which provides information on our safety protocols and guiding principles for a gradual return, as well as FAQs on a variety of topics. We will build on those resources as plans progress, and we will continue to keep you informed in weekly email updates.
