There are many scholarships available to support study abroad. CU Denver study abroad students have been awarded generous scholarships from the U.S. Government, foreign governments, and private foundations. Additionally, CU Denver offers scholarships for students participating in CU Denver programs.

The key is to plan ahead and begin researching the array of study abroad scholarships now. Be sure to note their application deadlines, eligibility requirements, and amounts. Scholarships may be specific to your program destination, field of study, program length, and foreign language of study. In addition to browsing the scholarships included on this site, be sure to ask your third-party program provider about their own scholarships available to students.

Students are also strongly encouraged to work with the CU Denver Writing Center when preparing essays for scholarship applications. Their helpful tips and edits will ensure you’re submitting the best version of your essay!

World at Hand Study Abroad Scholarship

The World at Hand Study Abroad Scholarship is a general scholarship of $500 awarded to eligible low-income and underrepresented students who are Denver Metro Area High School graduates. This scholarship is open for students participating on study abroad programs of any length in the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms and typically has deadlines in August and October. 

Eligible candidates:

  • Graduated from a Denver Metro Area High School
  • Qualify for a Federal Pell Grant (SAI 19,999 or below)
  • Identify as a low-income and/or underrepresented student
  • GPA (cumulative) 2.5 or GPA: 3.0+ from previous semester
  • Have been accepted/have applied to an in-person study abroad program
