Adapt to Impact Training Courses

Adapt to Impact offers six training courses accessed through Moodle. Each of the courses is available for credit through the Colorado Department of Early Childhood's Professional Development Information System (PDIS). You must have a PDIS account to receive a certificate of completion for any of the following courses:

Introduction to Universal Design discusses the principles of universal design in early childhood and provides strategies that can be implemented right away to better support children with disabilities. Most participants complete this course in approximately 1.5 - 2.0 hours. A Spanish version of this course is available (Introducción al Diseño Universal).

Adapting for Disability: Communication & Early Literacy discusses how the principles of universal design and various assistive technology tools can be used to create adaptations that promote language development and early literacy skills. Many of the strategies in this course can also be used to support children who are learning multiple languages. Most participants complete this course in approximately 1 hour.

Adapting for Disability: Behavior & Cognition discusses how the principles of universal design and various assistive technology tools can help foster emotional regulation, executive functioning, self-care, and cognitive skills. Most participants complete this course in approximately 1 hour.

Adapting for Disability: Hearing & Vision discusses how the principles of universal design and various assistive technology tools can be used to create an environment and activities in which a child with limited vision or hearing can participate with their peers. Most participants complete this course in approximately 1 hour.

Adapting for Disability: Fine Motor discusses how the principles of universal design and various assistive technology tools can be used to support children with limited hand function or who have not yet developed hand strength, coordination, and precision. Most participants complete this course in approximately 1 hour.

Adapting for Disability: Gross Motor discusses how the principles of universal design and various assistive technology tools can be used to adapt activities that require gross motor skills such as sitting, walking, riding a bike, and throwing a ball. Most participants complete this course in approximately 1 hour.

A certificate of completion will be issued at the beginning of each month in your PDIS account for any of the courses completed in the series during the previous month.

Loan Library Access: Only childcare programs licensed in Colorado can access the Adapt to Impact Loan Library. Completion of the 'Introduction to Universal Design' course allows licensed childcare programs limited access to the loan library. For full access, licensed childcare programs must complete at least one of the 'Adapting for Disability' courses in addition to the Introduction course.
