Making AI Easy to Use

Quick Start Guides

  • How to improve writing using AI: Leveraging AI as an editing assistant can optimize this workflow, helping to identify errors or clarity issues that may be missed after reviewing the same document repeatedly.

How We Are Using AI

"I had to create a presentation for a department meeting but only had bullet points. Copilot turned them into a polished slide deck with visuals in minutes."
– How a Staff Member Used Copilot

"I had to prepare a project update for leadership, but the data was scattered across multiple documents. I asked Copilot to pull the key points and draft a summary. It gave me a clear, polished report in minutes, saving me about 2.5 hours of work."
– How a Project Manager Used Copilot

"I had to compile expense reports from multiple spreadsheets. I asked Copilot to summarize the totals and create a clean summary table; it saved me 2 hours of manual work."
– How a Business Manager Used Copilot

"I needed to troubleshoot recurring issues with Copilot for staff, but the documentation was scattered. I asked Copilot to draft a clear troubleshooting guide, and it delivered a step-by-step resource in minutes."

  • Prompt 101: A Framework for Effective Copilot Prompts and Understanding Prompt Architecture
  • Data Classification: Adherence to University of Colorado data security and privacy protocols is a mandatory prerequisite for using any AI tool, including Microsoft Copilot. As a staff member, you are accountable for protecting university data from compromise.
  • AI Cheatcode: A Staff Guide to Optimizing Productivity and Results. An AI model is a powerful tool, but like any advanced tool, its output is only as good as the operator's instructions. A "prompt" is the instruction. This document provides the "cheat codes" (a set of frameworks and techniques) to move from basic, generic answers to expert-level, actionable results.

Responsible AI & Ethics (FAQ)

What is the university's official policy on using AI?

Our policy encourages responsible and ethical experimentation. AI can be a powerful tool for learning and productivity, but it must be used transparently and in accordance with academic integrity standards. Read the full policy here.

How do I cite AI in my work?

Treat AI tools like a research assistant. You must cite any content, ideas, or code generated by an AI. Please check with your professor or review Detecting AI for specific formatting.

What about data privacy and security?

This is critical. Do not enter any confidential, private, or proprietary university or personal data into public AI tools. For secure use, please use the university-approved MS Copilot, which operates within our secure environment.
