An Update on the Search for a Vice Chancellor for Finance, Chief Financial Officer
Jan 29, 2026Dear Lynx community,
I want to update you on the search for our new vice chancellor for finance, chief financial officer (CFO). This role comes at a pivotal moment for CU Denver, as the university’s future readiness depends on strong, purpose-driven leadership. With this in mind, and after careful consideration of both current and future leadership needs, this role will be focused at the vice chancellor level and specifically on finance and financial strategy, rather than the original portfolio duties which spanned both finance and administration.
This refined focus will bring critical expertise to the university in the areas of budgeting, financial oversight, and fiscal strategy at a time when growth and diversification of revenue streams will be essential to positioning CU Denver for a sustainable and thriving future.
This strategic shift will not increase executive headcount. Administrative functions and reporting lines will be realigned concurrently in coordination with leaders of these functions as a part of the transition to our new vice chancellor for finance, CFO. Ryan Davis, our interim executive vice chancellor for finance and administration, will continue to oversee both portfolios until our new vice chancellor for finance, CFO, assumes their role in late spring.
At the close of last year, a search committee was formed, chaired by Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Karen Marrongelle. Additional details, including search committee membership and the full job posting, can be found on the vice chancellor for finance, CFO, leadership search webpage. The priority application deadline is Feb. 23. The search committee will begin reviewing applications immediately thereafter, with semifinalist interviews planned for the first half of March and on-campus finalist visits in late March and early April. No on-campus visits will occur during spring break (from March 23 to March 27).
One final note: I have decided to conduct this search without the assistance of an executive search firm. We are fortunate to have immense talent with deep expertise in the Denver metro area and across Colorado—both inside and outside of academia. Coupled with our ability to recruit top candidates nationwide, I am confident we can attract the proper pool of candidates.
Your engagement during on-campus finalist visits will be critical to identifying not only the best candidate, but one who fully understands the excellence of CU Denver and the opportunity that lies before us. Additional thanks to our search committee for their deliberate action and dedication to this vital next step for our university .
