Partnering with Early Intervention Colorado
A redesigned guide helps Early Intervention teams document assistive technology for infants and toddlers.

For more than 20 years, Tech for Tykes has partnered with Early Intervention (EI) Colorado to help ensure children with disabilities under the age of 3 have access to the assistive technology (AT) they need to participate in everyday activities. Since 2004, Tech for Tykes has provided assistive technology (AT) support and guidance to EI providers throughout Colorado, including access to the statewide AT loan library.
On July 1, 2026, Early Intervention Colorado reached an important milestone with the release of their first ever statewide AT Guidance. This new resource provides guidelines for Local EI Programs around the state to follow when providing AT services and devices to families in Early Intervention. In preparation for the release of the AT Guidance, Tech for Tykes revamped and updated the IFSP Quick Guide. Available on the Tech for Tykes website, this interactive resource includes a decision tree to guide EI teams through the process of documenting AT on the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). As one of the most frequently accessed resources on the Tech for Tykes website, the IFSP Quick Guide received several enhancements to make it more accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with Colorado's new AT Guidance. The updated guide features:
- A streamlined, interactive decision tree presented in a single graphic, with clickable icons offering additional information and answers to common questions.
- Expanded resources and links to help EI teams find relevant AT information.
- A mobile-friendly, text-based version for easier navigation on phones and other devices.
- Improved accessibility to better support a variety of users.
- Updated terminology and recommendations aligned with state AT guidance.
The IFSP Quick Guide is cited as a resource in the statewide AT Guidance from EI Colorado. The guidance also highlights several additional resources supported by the University of Colorado's Center for Innovative Design and Engineering (CIDE), including Tech Trade for Tykes, CIDE’s AT Exchange, and the statewide AT loan library. Together, these resources help families and professionals explore, access, and make informed decisions about assistive technology.
The release of Colorado's first statewide AT Guidance marks another exciting milestone in the longstanding partnership between EI Colorado and Tech for Tykes. Through more than two decades of collaboration, the partnership has strengthened access to AT resources, supported EI professionals, and helped infants and toddlers with disabilities across Colorado participate more fully in the everyday activities that matter most to them and their families.
