Prepares motivated educators to identify and champion the strengths and assets of individuals ages 5 - 21 with differing abilities, including those with identified disabilities. Graduates are equipped with the most impactful and effective skills for leading inclusive classrooms and collaborating with professionals in the field and the community.

What you'll learn

The MA in Special Education with generalist endorsement prepares motivated individuals to identify and champion the strengths and assets of children ages 5-21 with differing abilities, including those with identified disabilities. CU Denver equips you with the most impactful and effective skills for leading inclusive classrooms and collaborating with professionals in the field and the community.

During the course of your studies, you will explore:

  • Strengths and assets-based approaches to teaching
  • Emotional/behavioral disabilities and learning disabilities
  • Family, professional and community collaboration
  • Interventions for exceptional learners
  • Special adaptations for inclusive classrooms
  • Leadership in special education

Students should consult with the Colorado Department of Education (http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeprof/licensure_authorization_landing) or the state in which they wish to be endorsed for the most updated endorsement requirements.
