Program Overview

CU Denver’s Online Teaching and Learning certificate focuses on effective online & hybrid learning designs, high impact practices, and modern learners; with distinct themes of instructional design, inclusive pedagogies, active learning, and emerging pedagogies.

What you will learn

University of Colorado Denver’s Online Teaching and Learning certificate program is designed for educators in K-12 settings, higher education settings, and adult workplace settings (corporate, community, government). This certificate is focused on designing online courses and learning resources using learning management systems, digital media, and technology tools and resources; and on the use of pedagogical strategies to facilitate online courses and learning opportunities for learners. 

In this certificate program you will become competent, creative, and confident in the use of various digital media and technology in support of learning, collaboration, and communication in online courses by: 

  • Using various digital media and technology in support of learning, collaboration, and communication in online courses. 
  • Using digital media and technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.  
  • Applying learning design principles to create innovative learning spaces and digital learning environments and resources that engage and support learning.  
  • Applying principles of inclusion, social learning, open sharing, and knowledge construction to build community and foster meaningful learning interactions. 

This 12-credit certificate program has rolling admissions, so you may start the program in the Fall, Spring, or Summer term.

  • INTE 5200 Designing Online Learning Experiences (3 credits)
  • INTE 5250 Teaching Strategies for Online and Blended Learning (3 credits)
  • INTE 5670 Crafting Synchronous Learning (3 credits)

And select one course from the following:

  • INTE 5340 Learning with Digital Stories (3 credits)
  • INTE 5711 Creative Designs for Learning (3 credits)
  • INTE 6930: Student Agency/Internship

Through these courses you will participate in a learning community that stresses inclusive values, social learning, open sharing, and knowledge construction. You will learn about emerging trends and issues and relevant research and best practices, and use a variety of digital media platforms and development tools. The course assignments focus on solving professional problems of practice in your own school and organizational settings.
