Master of Arts in Literacy Education, English Education

Program Overview

Prepares educators to work with diverse adolescents in different settings and help them develop an appreciation for literature and writing. The approach integrates many areas of knowledge that underlie effective teaching of English to serve the needs of today's diverse student population, building on students' languages, abilities, cultures, and real-world experiences.

What you'll learn

University of Colorado Denver’s Master of Arts in Literacy Education with a concentration in English education prepares educators to work with diverse adolescents as they develop an appreciation for literature and writing. In this program, you will study contemporary, multicultural and classic literature as well as the learning and development of reading and writing. Our goal is to help you have a transformative impact on student learning, creativity and achievement, while also supporting you as an innovator in your school and professional networks. As part of this program, you will learn to fully engage students in you classroom by exploring:

  • Theory and methods of English education
  • Teaching of writing
  • Adolescent literature
  • Digital literacy and use of technology to enhance literacy instruction

This program has a fully online option to help meet the needs of our students.
