CU Secure: Rollout of multi-factor authentication with VPN access
Mar 22, 2019The new University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus GlobalProtect VPN service using the multi-factor authentication application Duo is live. Remember: access to the previous VPN will expire on Friday, March 29, so act soon!
Our new VPN works in in concert with multi-factor authentication (MFA) which is very similar to methods many of us already use to access bank accounts and other secure online environments. Adding the multi-factor authentication security measure is designed to help safeguard student, faculty and staff personal information as well as the university systems and data that we work with each day.
What you need to do
- Register for MFA with Duo Security. OIT recommends that faculty, staff and students download the MFA app Duo to a smartphone. It is an effective and convenient way to authenticate that you are YOU - since you are likely to have your smartphone or tablet with you when you need to use Duo. The Duo Mobile app works even if you don’t have a wireless connection. And, if you prefer not to have the Duo app on your phone or other mobile device, authentication is also available through your landline.
- Download and install GlobalProtect VPN. Access to the current VPN will no longer work beginning Friday, March 29, so be sure to setup the new VPN after you have registered for multi-factor authentication with Duo. The VPN download links and installation instructions are available on the OIT CU Secure webpage.
- Start using the GlobalProtect VPN with multi-factor authentication! Check our project webpage for instructions and FAQs. If you need additional assistance, please reach out to the OIT Service Desk by calling 303.724.4357.
