CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION IN CULIACAN, MEXICO
A keen interest in developing curriculum for English language teachers took Cheryl Kaas to Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa (UAS), Sinaloa, Mexico, on a Fulbright-Garcia Robles Grant. During her stay, Kaas designed curriculum and a bachelor's degree program, and taught courses at three campuses within the system. She additionally designed curriculum and taught American history and culture in the newly created master’s degree program in North American Studies and conducted various workshops for EFL teachers at the five major language centers that were part of the University system.
Kaas has bachelor's degrees in English and History as well as a master's degree in linguistics from the Univeristy of Utah. As an academic specialist in the University of Colorado Denver Learning Resources Center, she facilitates study skills workshops, classes and programs for students whose first language is not English.
“My Fulbright year reinforced my beliefs in the power of education and the absolute necessity of international cooperation.”
