Long Description

Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering (CIDE)

Overview

The conceptual diagram shows the structure for the Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering. The diagram depicts intersections between grand challenges, stakeholders and research priorities.

Presentation

Collectively three grand challenges including 1) Inclusive environments, 2) Independence, empowerment and community engagement, and 3) Healthy living through technology are presented as three individual bars that cross the diagram horizontally. Four stakeholders bars including the College of Engineering Design and Computing, Industry, End-Users, and the School of Medicine intersect the grand challenges vertically but lay underneath, to depict their supporting role. Five research thrusts including inclusive design, Social Assistive Robotics, Smart Environments / Wearable Technologies, Human Machine Interfaces, and Biomechanics and Mobility form vertical bars that also intersect the grand challenges vertically. However they lie above the grand challenge bars to depict being driven by them.
