Pursuing a Dream in Music
A student pushes his schedule to the limit to graduate on time
Mar 25, 2020
A Colorado native, and the son of a CU Denver alumnus, Kevin got serious about music during an after-school technology club in middle school. “The teacher of the club was a musician who helped me get interested,” he explains. And so began his journey into mastering a world of musical styles, including electronic, hip-hop, and rap, both in English and Spanish. Landing at CU Denver as a recording arts major brings him one step closer to his career goals.
It’s a tough business that requires dedication and commitment. Kevin is no stranger to either, as he pushes his academic schedule to the limit in order to graduate on time, all while working two part-time jobs, the earnings from which he directs entirely to his education. Without a doubt, scholarship support helps him stay on track. “Without this support, I’d probably be a part-time student or would have taken a gap year to save money,” he says. Instead, Kevin, like many CU Denver students, is working hard to pursue his dreams. We’ll know when he reaches them – he’s promised to donate his first Grammy Award to the university.
