Sustainability

Sustainability is a theme that touches all the units and service areas that comprise Facilities Management and Planning (FMP). CU Denver’s sustainability initiatives focus on reducing energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water and material waste within CU Denver Buildings, and are led by the Principal Sustainability Professional (PSP). The PSP coordinates these efforts by establishing institutional climate goals, developing action plans and projects to achieve these goals, and continuously tracking and reporting on key environmental performance metrics.

To learn more about CU Denver’s goals and efforts around different sustainability topics and learn how to get involved, visit the Focus Areas and Get Involved pages below.

CU Denver’s sustainability efforts are part of a broader sustainability ecosystem both on the Auraria campus and within the University of Colorado.

The Auraria Sustainable Campus Program (ASCP) has been leading tri-institutional sustainability efforts for the broader Auraria Campus since 2004. The program is funded with student fees from all three academic institutions and works across seven sustainability pillars to reduce Auraria’s environmental impact. The ASCP is a strong partner and ally of CU Denver sustainability efforts and complements our resource conservation focus with programming regarding alternative transportation, waste, and education and outreach.

The PSP works collaboratively with the three other CU campuses and the CU System Office to share best practices and advance system-wide sustainability initiatives, such as goal setting and procurement best practices.
