The rise of e-commerce in the 21st century has radically transformed the way companies and consumers interact and transact business across borders. Integrated technologies available on mobile devices has created a wholesale shift towards digital payments, and the plethora of digital payments is increasing worldwide at unrelenting speed. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the growth and adoption of e-commerce platforms and digital payments worldwide, thereby making global payments an important topic for faculty to address in their courses in International Business, International Entrepreneurship, International Marketing, International Trade and Finance and related fields.
This workshop will (1) address how the global payments industry is being transformed as payment shifts from cash to digital payment options, (2) highlight the distinct advantages of digital payments in terms of speed, mobility, and global reach, and (3) feature business cases within digital payments that empower the creation of new entrepreneurial ventures and facilitate existing businesses to pivot to the digital space.
Faculty participants will learn different approaches for incorporating digital global payments topics in their International Business courses and identify resources that they and their students could use to learn more about global payments in cross-border e-commerce.
1. Learn more about digital payments and how it is transforming global business.
2. Explore key topics on digital global payments that they could incorporate and address in their International Business courses.
3. Identify resources that they and their students could use to learn more about global payments in cross-border e-commerce.
