Center for Undergraduate Exploration & Advising (CUE&A)

The Center for Undergraduate Exploration & Advising (CUE&A) is a resource for students who are looking to explore major and career pathways at CU Denver. We welcome students who are still deciding on a major, planning to change their major, and/or looking to supplement their current major with a minor or certificate program. In addition to being a general source for exploration, we serve as primary academic advisors for several programs such as Undeclared students in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS), First Year College of Arts & Media (CAM) students, and undergraduate Non-Degree seeking students.

    Important Announcement

The CUE&A is excited to announce that we will be meeting with students remotely over Zoom and in-person beginning March 16, 2022. Currently enrolled CUE&A students may schedule an appointment by clicking here. Students will receive an email from their Success Advisor either the evening before or morning of their appointment with login instructions if they’ve selected a Zoom appointment. For in-person appointments you can visit our office in the Student Commons Building (1201 Larimer St., Suite 1113, Denver, CO 80204) then check-in with our front desk staff.

In alignment with the university's concerns for the safety of our community in response to COVID-19, we are continuing to monitor the status of the pandemic and operations that align with public health recommendations.

    Additional Resources and Information

    Orientation

New Student Orientation sessions are held each semester. Detailed information about orientation is mailed to new students.

Please visit the orientation website, for more information and specific dates.

    Advising

New students must meet with their advisor before registration. That initial advising meeting will occur during an orientation event.

    Testing

CU Denver places the utmost importance on high-quality education and student success. For those reasons, we have implemented the ALEKS Placement, Preparation, and Learning Assessment for all students requiring a STEM math pathway course. The STEM math pathway consists of four possible course levels:

    • College Algebra
    • Trigonometry
    • Pre-calculus
    • Calculus

This assessment is designed to help you take the highest level math course for which you are prepared to succeed.

ALEKS is designed to help you recall previously learned material and build your math skills. After you complete the assessment, a set of modules will be created for you based on your areas for mathematical growth. You can work through those modules and retake the assessment up to four more times, and the highest score you earn is the one that will count.

Depending on the math requirements for your degree, making use of ALEKS could save you a semester of math, and possibly valuable tuition dollars. It is a study tool designed to help you succeed in getting where you want to go most efficiently.

    Still deciding a major?

If you're considering attending CU Denver but haven't yet decided on a major, we invite you to speak with a CUE&A Success Advisor regarding your options.

During orientation and registration season, we may not be available on a drop-in basis so it is best to call our office at 303-315-1940 to make an appointment in advance. We are also happy to offer phone and Zoom appointments for out-of-state students.
