Welcome to Parr Elementary School in Jefferson County Public Schools! Parr is a neighborhood walk-in school, in the Northeast part of Jefferson County. Parr Elementary has been a part of the neighborhood since 1969 serving approximately 300 students a year, from kindergarten through 6th grade. Parr is part of the Pomona High School articulation area. We are one of four elementary schools that send students on to Moore Middle school and finally Pomona High School in 9th grade. In addition, there is a Jefferson County preschool on site, serving 150 students ages 3-5. Our student population includes approximately 45% minority, 62% free and reduced and 15% English Language Learners.

Troy Brickley has been the principal at Parr since the 2007-2008 school year. He has been an educator in the Jefferson County Schools for 20 years. Mr. Brickley brings enthusiasm and energy to the staff and students at Parr. There is a welcoming environment and everyone involved knows that we are family. Fun things are always happening at Parr!

Our staff includes 2 teachers at each grade level. The specials team consists of a teacher in art, music, p.e. for all students and a instrumental music teacher for students in 5th and 6th grade. Our SERS (Special Education Resource Teachers) team includes both a psychologist and speech language teacher in addition to two Special Education teachers. Also, we have a full time instructional coach.

Parr offers some unique opportunities for our students after school. Each week we offer a boys club, a girls club and a board game club. Our Student Council is involved in organizing food drives and special events throughout the year. The music teacher invites students in grades 4 through 6 to participate in choir, in addition to drama club. Each spring there is a production in which students put on a terrific and entertaining musical. Yearly events include a spelling bee and a science fair. We invite parents to join us for our writing night, our carnival and field day.

As a Teacher Candidate at Parr, you will be welcomed into the classroom right away. You will dig deeply into our curriculum by learning our CAP (curriculum alignment project) using the planning templates organized with the philosophy of Understanding by Design. We are busy transitioning into the new state standards and implementing our concept based curriculum. You will participate in weekly staff development in addition to some longer staff development opportunities approximately once a month on student early release days. You will meet regularly with the instructional coach to dig deeply into understanding and delivering the curriculum through current best practices.

We welcome our partnership with UCD and our Teacher Candidates. This is a special opportunity for both the community at Parr and our UCD students.
