Laredo LIGHTS Elementary joined the UC Denver partnership in August 2009. Laredo offers teacher candidates a unique, diverse and supportive experience for their teaching internships.

Laredo is a K-5 Title I School and has a population of 475 students. Hispanic, African- American, Caucasian, Asian and Pacific Islander groups make up Laredo's diverse student population. 58% of these students are second language learners.

Laredo is a partner in the Aurora LIGHTS Health Sciences Pathway. The Aurora LIGHTS creates a pathway for students to college and careers in medicine and health sciences. With a focus on technology, science and health students are challenged by teachers and trained to provide high quality instruction in all content areas using technology for them to succeed in the 21st century world.

The staff's positive and forward focused attitude has created a safe, productive and healthy environment for students. This same attitude provides a supportive culture to help teacher candidates grow and develop into teaching professionals.

Mr. O'Keefe, the principal, and the staff are excited to be a part of the partnership and embrace teacher candidates as a part of the professional learning community.

We hope that you will join us in Laredo to learn and grow.
