Thank you for your interest in applying for the Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages certificate.
To begin pursuing the TESOL Certificate, please complete the following steps:
- TESOL Certificate Application Checklist
- Activate yourself as a University of Colorado Denver graduate-level student.
If you are already a current graduate student in any University of Colorado Denver program and are eligible to register for courses, you may skip this step. If you are an international student, please visit http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/SchoolOfEducation/Apply/Pages/InternationalStudents.aspx
a. If you are only interested in the certificate and do not plan to pursue a degree or endorsement with us, then simply complete an online application before the beginning of your first semester.
For fall or spring admission, submit the general Application for Non-degree Admission (a $50 fee will be required). To keep your tuition at the School of Education & Human Development rate (and not higher), be sure to indicate your interest in "Education" on the form.
For summer admission, submit the Pre-registration (Application) for Continuing and Professional Education (no application fee required). Find detailed instructions on applying to Continuing and Professional Education. Note that, if you begin in the summer, you may also need to submit the general non-degree application to continue in the fall.
b. If you are interested in pursuing a degree or endorsement program along with the TESOL Certificate, please contact the department offering the degree to learn about admission requirements. Note that the TESOL Certificate course work fulfills nearly half of the requirements for the M.A. in curriculum and instruction, Linguistically Diverse Education.
- Submit an official transcript from the institution granting your bachelor's degree. Transcripts are to be issued to you and submitted in an original unopened envelope. If you received a degree from an institution outside the U.S. and/or you are applying as an international student, you are required to complete the English Language Proficiency requirement.
- Download, fill out and submit a Certificate Programs Statement of Intent form before beginning the course work or as soon as possible after you begin.
Please direct any questions concerning the application process or course registration to Student Services Center at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-315-6300.
Applying to Complete the Certificate
During the final semester of certificate course work, please download, fill out, and submit a Certificate Completion Notification form. We will then, after seeing that you have completed the final course requirements, add the certificate as a notation to your official University of Colorado transcript.
