MA, Curriculum and Instruction Concentration: Secondary Math Education

Effective, knowledgeable and technology-savvy math teachers are in great demand right now. If you are a licensed teacher, who wants to be actively engaged in the exciting endeavors of understanding and improving the teaching and learning of mathematics, then you've come to the right place!

Our program draws students with strong academic capabilities and broad professional experiences. Your course work will include Curriculum Development and School Improvement, Assessment in Mathematics Education, Curriculum in Secondary Mathematics and other relevant courses related to teaching and learning mathematics.

We've designed the program to be convenient for current teachers. For example, courses are offered online, in the evenings, and weekend formats. Course assignments are relevant to the work of practicing teachers and can be completed in teachers' own classrooms.

Our faculty is top-notch. They will put you in touch with the problem-solving strategies, experiential learning activities, and innovative math teaching strategies.

We welcome applications from math teachers. We also accept applications from elementary and middle school teachers with strong math backgrounds who would like to add a secondary MA and endorsement.

Classes are scheduled to fit around your professional hours.

We recommend that working teachers take no more than one course per semester during the school year, and up to two courses in the summer. In general, you should not take more than two courses in any given semester.

Your MA course requirements depend upon your background.

The TEACH club is a student organization on the CU Denver campus that welcomes all students, both at the undergraduate and graduate level, who are interested in becoming educators. The club provides opportunities to build friendships with other future educators who will soon be your colleagues, explore topics of interest to future teachers, engage in service projects with children and youth, and to network with K-12 and university faculty who care deeply about the future of teaching!
