Alumni Share Expertise on Jobs in Colorado
Sep 17, 2020On September 16, 2020 industry-leading alumni were keynote speakers for a Jobs in Colorado Info Session for recent alumni and students. Senior Demographer for Colorado Cindy DeGroen ’96 discussed the state’s current employment landscape, and Jefferson County’s Director of Human Resources, Jennifer Fairweather ’90 addressed shifts in hiring processes since COVID-19 and offered tips-and-tricks on doing well in a virtual interview.
The event was hosted in partnership with LynxConnect, the Student Government Association and CU Denver Alumni.
Cindy DeGroen '96 is a Senior Demographer at the Colorado State Demography Office, the primary state agency for population and demographic information in addition to the office representing state and local needs and concerns relating to the conduct of the decennial census. She has over 25 years of experience analyzing economic and demographic trends for the United States and Colorado. Cindy graduated with a degree in mathematics from the College of Liberal Arts and Science.
Jennifer Fairweather '90 (pictured) is currently the Director of Human Resources (CHRO) for Jefferson County, located in Golden Colorado. She is also an Affiliate Professor with Regis University where she facilitates undergraduate and graduate courses for the College of Business and Economics. Jennifer has over 23 years of experience in both public sector and private sector human resources in addition to operational management experience. Jennifer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from CU Denver and a Master of Arts in Human Resources Development from Webster University. She also has her SHRM-SCP, IPMA-SCP and PHR professional certifications as well as a Certificate in Professional Training. Jennifer has facilitated sessions on leadership and development for local and national forums and has written articles for newsletters and newspapers on various management and human resources topics. Jennifer is a Colorado native and enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family (pets included!)
