Application Tips and Guidelines

  • Use a PC, not a Mac
  • Download and complete the application formusing Adobe PDF, free download available
  • Fill out the application in the Adobe Reader application, not a web browser
  • Submit a written essay in PDF format, following the instructions on page three of the application
  • Submit two letters of recommendation specifically addressing your academic preparation for the honors program, sent directly from the recommender to
  • Submit an unofficial high school transcript which includes the grades from your most recent semester grades and your current or planned enrollment
  • Send all materials as PDF attachments
  • Attachment formats other than PDF, including JPEG, Google Drive, PDF scan, won't be accepted
  • No handwritten application materials, we can only accept computer-generated items

Students applying for admission to the UHL program must first be admitted to CU Denver as full-time undergraduate students,

Admission to the University Honors and Leadership (UHL) program is competitive. In addition to meeting published requirements for admission to CU Denver, competitive applicants will have a high school GPA, class ranking, and SAT/ACT scores commensurate with an honors educational experience. We expect that applicants will rank in the top ten percent of their high school class and/or have scored in the 90th percentile or above on the SAT/ACT.

Students selected for UHL share a strong desire for an academically rigorous and challenging college experience and desire to success.

  • UHL application form
  •  Written essay — follow essay instructions and prompt on the application form
  • Two letters of recommendation — emailed to
  • Transcripts, including your most recent semester grades as well as enrollment information for the last semester of your senior year, which will be verified through admissions
  •  Unofficial ACT/SAT score report, which will be verified through admissions (optional)
  • The UHL Admissions Committee will review your application and additional materials
  • You will be contacted by email with the committee’s decision
  • Students who are selected as finalists for admission will be interviewed by the UHL Admissions Committee
  • Once the interview is complete you will be informed of next steps
