Karen LeFever

Karen LeFever is an educator, leadership consultant, and community builder who is passionate about helping people navigate life's transitions. Today, she selectively consults and advises education and nonprofit organizations while investing much of her time in mentoring, community-building, and projects that bring people together. She believes meaningful relationships are at the heart of personal growth and lasting change.

Karen's career has spanned education, executive leadership, and strategic consulting. She began as an elementary school teacher before serving as a principal in California and Colorado, then spent nearly two decades leading growth strategies and strategic partnerships for education organizations nationwide. Throughout her career, she has mentored emerging leaders, served on nonprofit boards, and spoken nationally on leadership, education, and organizational growth.

Karen first experienced Change Makers as a fellow in the Spring 2024 cohort while navigating her own transition from full-time executive leadership to a more intentional season of consulting, community engagement, travel, and family. The experience reinforced her belief that transitions can become opportunities for growth, connection, and renewed purpose. As a Co-Facilitator, she enjoys creating spaces where fellows can reflect on their experiences, build authentic relationships, and confidently shape what comes next.

Karen and her husband, Paul, have been married for more than 40 years and are grateful to have their two adult children and their families nearby in Colorado. Together they have hosted international high school students from around the world for more than twelve years through U.S. Department of State exchange programs, creating lifelong friendships and inspiring travel around the world.

Karen earned her bachelor's degree and doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern California (USC) and a master's degree in special education from California State University, Fullerton.
