DENVER - Today the CU Denver Women’s Resource Center (WRC) celebrated its first birthday with a two-day event today in its office located in North Classroom. Through the event they hope to reach even more students, staff and faculty and educate them about the resources the center has to offer.

Carisa Weaver, coordinator for the WRC, said, “It’s really exciting to be celebrating our first year here.”

The WRC has three main areas of focus: education, informational programs and direct services such as consulting, that they offer to any CU Denver student, staff or faculty.

Weaver said, “Through the education we just want to show what resources are out there whether it's through one-on-ones, panels or group discussions. Our direct services include sessions with me, and I show the student, staff or faculty member what there is out there.” She continued, “The programs are a big part and we either show a movie or host a panel.”

The panels happen twice a semester and they work to bring women in different fields to the Auraria Campus for students, staff and faculty to have a conversation. Previous panels have included Women in Non-profits. The upcoming panel is Women in Government.

One student who stopped by the birthday party had questions about registering with the WRC. Weaver said, “It’s completely free. Everything we do is covered by student fees. If you do want a one-on-one please make an appointment but that is the only thing you need to do.”

Weaver added, “We really want this to be a fun place where people can learn.”
