DENVER – Pyramid Plus: The Colorado Center for Social Emotional Competence and Inclusion at the University of Colorado Denver is pleased to announce a new partnership with The Colorado Health Foundation. The Foundation has provided funding for two full-time positions to expand the sustainability and scale-up objectives of the Pyramid Plus Center housed at CU Denver’s School of Education & Human Development.

The Pyramid Plus Center focuses on skill development for Early Care and Education (ECE) professionals in their efforts to promote young children’s social, emotional and behavioral competence. The new Colorado Health Foundation funding aims to expand these opportunities to Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) consultants, other health professionals and parent groups who are involved in ECE programs, as research indicates that these populations have a dramatic impact on early childhood behavioral health.

Robin Levy-Conti has been named the new Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) Specialist and Geneva Hallett is the Community Relations Specialist.

Levy-Conti brings years of experience with the Arapahoe County Early Childhood Council, Aurora Mental Health Center, and as a trainer and coach in the Pyramid model, ECE Cares and Expanding Quality in Infant Toddler Care Initiative (EQIT).

Hallett, through her experience with state systems as the Vice President of Quality Improvement and Vice President of Qualistar Ratings plus many years as an early childhood educator, will spearhead Pyramid Plus Center community relations, public awareness and capacity building work in communities across Colorado.

“We are thrilled that Robin Levy-Conti and Geneva Hallett have joined our team,” explains Barbara Smith, Director of the Pyramid Plus Center. “They bring expanded skills and experience that are a perfect match for The Colorado Health Foundation objectives. They will help us reach more people in the lives of children to promote their social emotional health and well-being.”

The scale-up and sustainability goals for the new initiative are to:  1) certify 10 trainers or coaches in the Pyramid Plus evidence-based approach, 2) train up to 200 people, and 3) support capacity building in six communities to help them build their capacity to implement these models and to include the new groups in their efforts. The new positions will also help Pyramid Plus connect with other statewide Early Childhood initiatives such as the Healthy Child Care Colorado, ECMH work groups, parent groups and the Inclusion Consortium.

The Colorado Health Foundation is funding the Pyramid Plus Center through the University of Colorado Foundation to help make Colorado the healthiest state in the nation.

“The Pyramid Plus Center is using evidence-based strategies to foster positive social-emotional development and address behavioral health problems in young children,” said Colorado Health Foundation Program Officer Brenda Sears. “Children served by this project will have a lower risk of serious mental health disorders later in life. In addition, they are more likely to be self-sufficient and better able to positively contribute to their community and to society.”
