DENVER - The American Planning Association Student Chapter (APAS) of the University of Colorado Denver recently hosted a Career Day.

During the two-hour event, Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) graduate students were able to get their resume reviewed, participate in a mock interview, and engage in “speed dating”-style networking with 18 local planning professionals. The professional development opportunity took place at the Wellington Webb municipal building in Denver.

Resume reviews and mock interviews were on a first- come, first-served basis and all the available time slots filled up quickly. The networking sessions were designed to have five-minute turnovers, during which where could quickly get to meet someone new, ask a few important questions, get professional feedback, and, hopefully, walk away with one less resume and one new contact.

Participants generally agreed the event was a great success for both students and professionals. One professional noted that he wished the APAS chapter had put on a similar event when he was attending school.

APAS hopes to continue putting on professional development events such as the Career Fair and Lunch with Professionals, another networking event hosted by APAS once a semester.
