Student Senate sets 2013-14 agenda

Fees and committee work focus of discussions

10/17/2013
Student Senate hearing

AURORA, Colo. - The Anschutz Medical Campus Student Senate laid out plans for the 2013-2014 academic year during a retreat last week.

Highlights of the discussion included agenda items for Senate committee projects and overall involvement in the CU System-wide InterCampus Student Forum (ICSF). This group works directly with the Regents of the University of Colorado. Student Senate President Heather Ponicsan also serves as the President’s Liaison this year.

In addition to committee work, other topics discussed during the retreat were the Senate’s involvement in campus-wide student fees and Senate participation with the Academic Services Advisory Committee which oversees the use of the $75 per term fee that students pay.

"During the retreat," Poniscan said, "we also discussed 'Ask a Senator' open sessions for all students that will be held in two locations (one in ED2N, another in RC2-2nd floor) the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month from noon to 1 p.m.

"We also are creating a facebook page that will allow students to communicate about ski days and try to carpool -- if they are all going to the same ski slope." Ponicsan said. 'Snow riders' an unofficial avenue where students can decide to get together to carpool.

The Student Senate-sponsored first 'movie night' of the year will be in November--details to be announced.

Senators also discussed collecting soap, toys and book donations for community outreach. "And we are going to continue volunteering at Aurora Public School's Paris Elementary; Saturday sports clubs through November and then we'll start the reading and writing club in January," Poniscan added.

The next Senate meeting is Monday, Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Ed2N, Room 2307. All students are welcome.
