Telecommunications


The Telecommunications department within OIT maintains and manages the telephone system, voicemail system, and communications infrastructure for all university owned buildings. This group performs a wide range of services from new phone requests to management of large-scale communications projects.

Construction Services

This department provides assistance with large construction, renovations or moves.

Call the Customer Service Center at 303-724-0400 for additional directions or assistance.

Phone and Paging Services

Request a phone installation, jack installation, move, add, change:

Request service for a problem with your phone

  • For CU Anschutz phones and CU Denver 315 extensions, call the Help Desk: 303-724-HELP (4357)
  • For Denver Campus AHEC phones, dial the operator ("0") to submit a repair order.
 
Desktop Phone Feature: Conference Calling
 
With two campuses and numerous off site locations more and more meetings are
being held via a Telephone Conference Call rather than in person. Holding meetings
over the phone saves time and money! Here are a few great options available
for Conference Calling on campus.

303-724-XXXX and 303-315-XXXX
You can conference up to three parties on any campus telephone.
With the first party on the phone press the TRANSFER key, wait for the interrupted dial tone, Dial
the third party and press the CONF key, the three way conference call is established.

303-556-XXXX and 303-352-XXXX
You can conference up to three parties on any analog (beige) phone and up to six parties on a digital
(grey) phone.

ANALOG: With the first party on the phone press the flash or switch hook button once, listen for a
recall dial tone, dial the third party, once the third party answers press the flash or switch hook button
once, the three way conference call is established!

DIGITAL: With the first party on the line press the CONF key, listen for dial tone and dial the new
party and wait for an answer, press the CONF key again, the conference call is established. Repeat
these steps until you have all parties on the line.

What if you need more parties on the line? You can utilize the University of Colorado
Hospital Operators to establish a Conference Bridge. Call 720-848-0000 or
x80000 and request to have a conference bridge set up. Please call 48 hours in
advance. They will need to know your phone number, time of the call and number
of participants. This is a great service available at no cost to the campus!

 How do I add a new phone?

  • Requests for new lines can be made through our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP for 303-724-XXXX & 303-315-XXXX prefixes.
  • For 303-352-XXXX & 303-556-XXXX prefixes please submit the following form Phone Request. Please contact the Help Desk for questions regarding the form.

 What is the cost to add/disconnect an AMC or DC phone?

There is no-cost to add or disconnect an CU Anschutz or CU Denver phone (303-724-XXXX or 303-315-XXXX). However if you are requesting a new line there is a $22.50 monthly charge. Please contact our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP to coordinate this​

 What is the cost to add/disconnect an AHEC phone?

AHEC bills a $39/hourly rate to add or disconnect an AHEC phone (303-556-XXXX or 303-352-XXXX). Also, if you are adding a new line, you will need purchase a phone. Please contact our CSR'S at 303-724-0414 to coordinate this request.​

 How much is the monthly charge for phones?

The monthly charge for each phone line is $22.50. A complete list of our rates can be found online at ITS Finance Rates.​

 I’m being billed for a phone that is not active?

If you call a phone and get a message stating the phone has not been activated, it means that the user has not set up their voicemail. For questions or assistance with voicemail please contact our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP.​

 What is the cost to move a phone?

To move a phone to a new location on either campus there is going to be a $45 charge. Please contact our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP to coordinate the move or fill out the Phone Request form at Phone Request.​

 How do I change the name of a phone on the monthly statement?

To change the name on a phone on the monthly statement, please send an email to its.billing@ucdenver.edu. Please be sure to include the phone number and the new name.​

 How do I change the name on the display of the phone?

To change the name on the display of the phone, please contact our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP.​

 How do I cancel a 303-724-XXXX or a 303-315-XXXX phone?

Please contact our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP to request phones with a 303-724-XXXX or 303-315-XXXX prefix be disconnected.​

 How do I cancel a 303-556-XXXX or a 303-352-XXXX phone?

To cancel a 303-556-XXXX or a 303-352-XXXX please complete the online phone request form. This form can be found at Phone Request.​

 My phone is not working, now what?

If you are having trouble with your phone line or equipment, please contact our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP to set up a trouble ticket. This will create a request to send a tech to your location.​

 What is a virtual line?

There are two kinds of virtual lines.

  • Virtual DID: A virtual DID (direct inward dial) is a secondary outside line coming into a single phone. This allows for one physical phone to house and answer calls coming from two separate 303-724-XXXX or 303-315-XXXX extensions. There is an additional $22.50 monthly charge for each virtual DID line.
  • Rollover: A virtual is a secondary internal line coming into a phone (usually a 1xxxx number) which allows you to place a person on hold and answer a second line.

 How do I add a new virtual line?

Please contact our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP to request a new virtual line for your phone.​

 How do I change the name on a virtual line?

To change the name on a virtual line call, you can either call the Help Desk at 303-724-HELP and request to make a name change on that extension or complete an online phone request form at Phone Request.​

 How do I cancel a virtual line?

Please contact our Help Desk at 303-724-HELP to request the virtual line be cancelled.​

 How do I adjust the ringer volume on my telephone?

The ringer volume is controlled by the UP or DOWN arrow button located on the bottom right side of the keypad on the telephone. While your telephone is ringing, press either the UP or DOWN arrow button. The volume will change accordingly. ​

 What is "MIC"?

Press the MIC key, which is located on the top row, 2nd triangular button, to activate or deactivate the microphone. The MIC LED light will illuminate when MIC is on. Please note the MIC must be activated in order to use the SPEAKER function on your phone.​

 How do I receive my voicemail messages in my e-mail inbox?

To request Unified Messaging, the service that converts voicemail messages into an audio file, send an e-mail to ucd-oit-helpdesk@ucdenver.edu containing your phone number and e-mail address. ​

 When I reply through Unified Messaging some people don't receive it?

If you have Unified Messaging and you reply, make sure that the TO field has the recipients email address, othewise your reply will never get to the intended party. Please note only users currently on Unified Messaging will have their email address show in the TO field automatically. ​

 If I delete a voice mail from my email will it delete from my phone?

If you deleted a voice mail message from your email it will delete the message from your phone as well. ​

 When I click play on my Unified Messaging why can't I hear anything?

Make sure your speakers are turned on or plugged in. ​
