Office of Academic Achievement and Student Success

The Office of Academic Achievement and Student Success promotes the creation of high-quality learning experiences in and out of the classroom.  We support faculty as they create courses that help students learn, persist, and ultimately graduate.  We serve students by providing support for their academic endeavors through advising, tutoring, peer mentoring, and tools for classroom success. We also provide opportunities for enhanced student engagement through research, honors coursework, first-year experiences, and leadership training.  From orientation through graduation our programs help students achieve their academics goals, setting them up for success at CU Denver and beyond.

  • Inclusive Pedagogy Academy

This project focuses on improving the retention of first-year students through an integrated approach that ensures that every student has an unparalleled first-year at CU Denver, with high levels of engagement, access to excellent support services, quality courses, and predictable navigation of university systems.  Specifically, this project seeks to enhance the quality of introductory gateway courses, create proactive first-year advising practices, enhance new student orientation, expand tutoring and supplemental instruction for targeted courses, and expand options for FYE courses.

This project involves the work of Undergraduate Academic Advising, New Student Orientation, Learning Resources Center, First-Year Experiences, Center for Undergraduate Exploration & Advising, and the Peer Advocate Leaders program.

Historically the University Honors & Leadership program at CU Denver has welcomed incoming first-year students to participate in the University Honors & Leadership program.  Beginning In the 2021-2022 academic year new transfer students and continuing students will also be able to apply to the program and declare a minor in Honors.  They will participate in an array of opportunities that support and nurture academic excellence.

The Inclusive Pedagogy Academy (IPA) is a professional development opportunity designed to help faculty learn about, practice, and implement inclusive and learner-centered practices in their teaching in a supportive environment with colleagues.  The IPA is offered once each year through the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning and helps faculty to:

  • Identify societal, educational, and institutional systems and structures that promote or prevent equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Acknowledge the ways that the cultures of disciplines and classrooms perpetuate inequities.
  • Explain the ways their identities shape their teaching and interactions with students.
  • Recognize that students' social identities and experiences shape the ways that they perceive and participate in classes.
  • Explain how specific inclusive instructional practices promote equity and reduce barriers in learning environments.
  • Explain how inclusive classroom policies promote equity and reduce barriers in their classrooms.
  • Explain how specific inclusive messaging and communication promote equity and reduce barriers in learning environments.
  • Articulate how their teaching and learning attitudes and practices promote equity and inclusion.
