Career Family Job Summary: Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities. Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.
Professional Level Job Summary: Assistant Directors have responsibility for projects, functions or processes within a department. These positions may recommend strategy and provide professional support to Directors and may have the authority to act on the Director's behalf. Assistant Directors typically supervise other staff but do not generally control the allocation of fiscal or human resources.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four (4) years of research administration experience, including fundamental knowledge of research methods, protocols, data collection, and analysis. Optional Substitution: Related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's or terminal degree in research administration or a related field. Five (5) years of related professional experience. Knowledge of the proposal/contract/grant management process at this level is required. Strong organisational skills, the ability to work proficiently under deadlines. Demonstrated ability to produce accurate and timely work products. Experience working independently with minimal direction. Demonstrated excellent decision-making skills, ability to set priorities for multiple competing tasks. Knowledge of university and sponsor policies and state and federal regulations. Ability to provide sound and reasoned input and advice to senior leadershiop on university policy and procedures Related professional experience as manager, supervisor, work leader, staff authority or project/program administrator.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution. Demonstrate a commitment to providing outstanding customer service skills. Demonstrate an exceptional understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion with a committment to developing equitable practices. Ability to balance performing duties independently without guidance and direction from other professionals and collaborate with profesionals and faculty across campus. Ability to articulate the University's mission and the importance of the 2030 strategic plan Ability to manage ambiguous situations and/or information and translate them into results Ability to demonstrate exceptional management and leadership qualities Ability to manage and oversee multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high attention to detail Ability to effectively plan, establish and implement program goals and objectives Ability to manage day-to-day oversight of program processes, workflow and adminstration Ability to determine and implement program scope, set deadlines and delegrate tasks to team members Ability to develop strategic plans that align with the goals of the University Demonstrate progressive supervisory qualities.
