Note: This FAQ is a work in progress.  There are still decisions to be made and processes to update.  If this is the case, the answer is marked as “TBD.”  Please continue to reference the most current version of this FAQ for the most up-to-date information.  If you have other questions you would like added, please e-mail Florie.Montoya@ucdenver.edu

No additional leave will be received or accrued unless there are multiple appointments and less-than full-time appointments for university staff or classified positions.

Yes.  Accruals will be based on pay group and systems will be programmed to accommodate the new state sick accruals.

Yes. Tracking for 9-month faculty, Post Docs, and Residents will be handled outside of HCM and to comply with reporting requirements of the new law, we will need a way to run reports in a central location.  TBD: Creation of a central tool that will accommodate the tracking for these groups.

Individuals on stipends (pre-docs) and are not eligible for sick leave.

For Faculty on Contracts (including applicable student faculty), sick leave will be granted at the beginning of each semester and can be used immediately.

For all Other Paid Employees (including non-contract temporary, student employees, and applicable student faculty), sick leave will be earned upon hire date and accrued at the end of the each payroll cycle.

Accrued leave will show either in My Leave or TBD: Central reporting tool.

The 48-hours will be accrued like other leave (over the fiscal year).

No, 48-hours is the maximum that can be earned in a fiscal year and if extra time is needed, a dock will be entered.

Yes. University staff temps, classified temps, research temps and working retirees are eligible for the new state sick leave.

There is no obligation to pay out any of the accrued state sick leave upon separation.

If an employee separates from employment and is rehired within six months after the separation, we will reinstate any paid sick leave that the employee had accrued–but not used–during the employee's previous employment.

If an employee transfers to a different school, college, department or campus, the employee is entitled to all paid sick leave accrued at the time of transfer.

If students have more than one job, they will receive accruals for each job. Departments will need to work together to understand the impact for that student and to each school/department. They will also need to coordinate accruals and reductions of the leave balance.

Each employee earns at least one hour of paid sick leave for every thirty hours worked by the employee. There is no time limit on when that 30 hours is worked.

Sick leave for 9-Month Faculty will be available at the beginning of each semester and it can be used immediately.

For all other paid employees, the new sick leave will begin to be earned upon hire date, accrued at the end of  each payroll cycle and used after it is accrued.

Leave for Post Docs, Residents and 9 month faculty will be tracked outside of My Leave. All other positions are tracked in My Leave. Looking at options for those who track leave with other timekeeping systems to add usage to current systems.
