Our Preparations for Fall 2021

To maximize student success, we are committed to starting the fall 2021 semester with full operations on campus, to the extent possible. Wider vaccine availability and extensive mitigation strategies give us confidence we can do this safely.

At CU Denver, we see an opportunity to learn from the positive disruptions we have experienced over the past year. By meeting them where they are, we will provide an outstanding college experience to every new and returning student in the vibrant Lynx family.

Lynx Together

Why We Need To Be Together

While we have shown we can deliver an exceptional education remotely, we know many students, faculty, and staff would prefer to be together on campus. We also know that in-person learning works best for many students and for certain research subjects, so we are committed to offering engaging educational experiences that include on-campus components. We will continue to provide digital and hybrid options to meet our community’s needs, as online learning is a vital part of our academic offering.

Embracing an in-person experience is especially important for CU Denver because across the country many BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students, who make up the majority of our undergraduate population, are not signing up for college. If these high school seniors do not enroll now, they are much less likely to enroll and graduate. Without enough undergraduate and graduate students in college, the state will not be able to meet the workforce needs of the future, and these students will miss out on a wide array of career opportunities.

Planning Efforts

We are planning scenarios for the fall 2021 semester with four primary goals in mind:

  1. Keep our community safe.
  2. Significantly increase the classes, services, and experiences offered on campus.
  3. Prioritize experiences such as labs and studios that are better suited for in-person experiences.
  4. Integrate the positive disruptions and learnings that emerged from the pandemic.

Additionally, we are establishing the Lynx Together Task Force, which will prepare for and coordinate student, faculty, and staff activities for the fall. The task force will organize a series of working groups to engage the campus in thinking through every detail. This site will be updated as planning accelerates.
