Whether you’re an alumnus, current student, member of the faculty and staff, donor, or neighbor, you’re a valuable part of the CU Denver community. Help us celebrate the last 50 years and a future that works for all.
Commencement honors the achievement of one's academic goals and the beginning of the next vocational commitment. CU Denver ceremonies occur twice a year in December and May. Summer graduates are invited to participate in the fall ceremony. Participation
in commencement is permitted only after a student has completed all of their degree requirements and has applied to graduate.
Tickets are not required for either commencement ceremony. Please note that seating is first-come, first-served.

Prepare for Commencement
CU Denver's commencement is an all-campus ceremony during which we recognize all doctoral, educational specialist, master's and bachelor's degree recipients.
Are you a faculty member planning to participate in the ceremony? Not sure what you need to do to prepare? Find out how to register, where to pick up your regalia, and download the schedule.
Add some flair to your profiles, posts, lawns, and windows with our special #CUDenverGrad toolkit, which includes social media cover photos, Zoom backgrounds, printable yard signs, and more for graduates and loved ones!
No, you do not have to attend. Commencement is an optional activity to celebrate the completion of your degree. A fee is charged to those students who do opt to participate to help offset the costs of producing the ceremony.
Graduates do not receive their diplomas at the ceremony. All diplomas are mailed to graduates approximately two months after the end of the semester. Diploma addresses can be updated via the student portal.
To ensure that all students are wearing the proper regalia and that it is consistent with the university's quality standards, all graduates are required to rent caps and gowns through Herff Jones, our official vendor. All CU Denver Graduates wear regalia featuring CU colors.
Cancellations received by the close of cap and gown registration will receive a full refund. After this date the commencement fees cannot be refunded. If you chose to ship your regalia to you, it can be returned for a refund in the return envelope. You will only receive a full refund if the gown was unopened.
Yes, you can still participate and your name will be read, but you will be charged late fees.
