Young Upwardly Mobile Professor Grant (Y.U.M.P.s)

Y​UMPS provides support to tenure-track assistant professors at the University of Colorado Denver (Denver Campus) as they advance toward tenure. Funded activities can include: attending professional conferences or a professional development training/workshop, hiring a research assistant, or purchasing books, software, or specialized equipment. 

  • Funding Limit: $500/year
  • Eligibility: Tenure-track faculty
  • Matching: Applicants must secure and document confirmation of matching funds from their school/department.YUMPS Application Chair Approval Signature Form (upload this form as a PDF with your application)
  • Only eligible for one YUMPS award per year (exceptions may apply for the April deadline if funds are available)

Academic Year 2021-2022 Deadlines: 

Fall Deadline: October 1, 2021, 5:00pm
Spring Deadline: February 4, 2022, 5:00pm
Late Spring Deadline (if remaining funds are available): April 8, 2022, 5:00pm

YUMPS grant applications are currently closed. Applications for Academic Year 2022-2023 will open in August 2022.


  • Funds must be expended within the fiscal year in which you have been awarded as no funds will rollover. The means you must spend the grant funds by May 1st of the fiscal year.
  • The University's fiscal year begins July 1 and coincides with the academic year (meaning July 1st is the beginning of the fiscal year, and academic year.)

The University of Colorado Denver is carefully monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic situation. At present, YUMPS grant candidates may apply for support for professional development activities requiring travel. Attendance will be subject to University travel rules at the time the travel takes place.
