Message from Provost Roderick Nairn, PhD
It is apt that we stop to celebrate faculty of the University of Colorado Denver who achieved the distinguished title of Fulbright Scholar in recent years. These select individuals established new international research partnerships, contributed to the literature in their field, assisted international host universities with curriculum development, and established enduring collegial relationships abroad.
Their work abroad has allowed them to return to our university to influence the internationalization of the curriculum. Additionally, they serve as role models, encouraging students to study abroad and engage in international careers and their colleagues to pursue international research and teaching. Their efforts are an enduring contribution to the university's reputation as a globally engaged institution.
Our Fulbright Scholars represent a broad range of academic disciplines and international interests. Their work ranges from media production in Portugal to HIV/AIDS research in Vietnam, from microfinance in Bolivia to mapping environmental health in Turkey, and from water resource management in New Zealand to transplant care research in Sweden. While our faculty projects have contributed to international understanding and cooperation, they have also advanced work that benefits all humankind.
While our scholars working abroad have contributed deeply to our institutional mission, our university has also been enriched by the experience of hosting Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence. Here scholars in residence have worked with UC Denver faculty on everything from early cancer detection to advancing our understanding of the Muslim world. Their presence in our classrooms, laboratories, and studios leads to continuing research collaborations, provides students rich opportunities to learn directly from international experts, and greatly enhances international discourse across our university.
We also have participated in the Fulbright student fellowship program for Foreign Students and U.S. students. In this report, we also celebrate the students who have achieved the distinction of Fulbright Fellow.
We, at the University of Colorado Denver, are fortunate to celebrate our Fulbright Scholars and Fellows who continue to energize the international activities of the University. We look forward to welcoming more of our faculty and student body into this distinguished circle in the years ahead.
