Smoking Cessation - Employee Assistance


 

There are several resources available to employees seeking assistance with smoking cessation. Most employee benefit plans offer prescription assistance to quit smoking. Inividuals should check their employee plans to determine their level of coverage.  Several plans also offer discounts and on-line specials to assist individuals in their efforts to stop smoking.  Examples of these programs include resources, support groups, self help materials, and articles.  Listed below are employee benefit plans and examples of smoking cessation assistance offered through those plans. Also listed are additional community resources.

STATE TOBACCO EDUCATION AND PREVENTION PROGRAM (STEPP)

Colorado QuitLine (1-800-QUIT-NOW) is a completely FREE, over-the-phone service for anyone calling from a Colorado area code. With QuitLine, you can receive up to eight weeks of the patch for free, as you work with trained coaches who create a personalized quit plan just for you. They also give you the support and tools you'll need to help you quit smoking for good. Those tools include the eight free weeks of the patch, individual coaching, relapse prevention, and scheduled calls from your coach. You can contact the Colorado QuitLine by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW.

The QuitLine is staffed during the following hours (Mountain Standard Time)

M-Th: 7am - 9pm
F: 7am - 7pm
Sa-Su: 8am - 4:30pm

If you call after hours or can not reach a coach during the times above, please leave a message and a coach will return your call within 24 hours.

ANTHEM PLANS

Program includes a four week class which offers unlimited review, a free book, MP3 support audios, tracking tools, and if you desire a live coach.

Individuals should call the above number and give their group or member number for specific information regarding smoking cessation assistance.  Individual plans should be reviewed for prescription coverage and restrictions.  

KAISER PLANS

Their Web site provides information on multiple prescription options, side effects, drug interactions, precautions, and usage.   

Kaiser covers medications for smoking cessation if prescribed by your doctor. Individual policy holders should contact Kaiser for specific plan coverage.
