Graduate Certificate in Managing for Social Equity

Program Overview

This certificate provides you with the knowledge and skills to strengthen principles and practices that support equity, diversity, and inclusion within government and nonprofit organizations and in their interactions with the larger society.

For public administrators, social equity has been defined as the active commitment to fair, just, and equitable distribution of public services, design and implementation of public policy, and management of all institutions serving the public.

The Graduate Certificate in Managing for Social Equity provides knowledge and skills for government and nonprofit organizational managers and leaders interested in strengthening principles and practices that support equity, diversity, and inclusion within their organizations and as their organizations interact with the larger society.

Students interested in obtaining a concentration in Local Government within a Master of Public Administration program must apply and enroll in the MPA program within the School of Public Affairs and must adhere to all master degree program requirements.

Program Requirements

  • The Graduate Certificate in Managing for Social Equity requires 12 credit hours of coursework.
  • Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, with a minimum grade of B- in each course.

Required Courses

Students must complete the following courses for a total of 12 credit hours:

  • PUAD 5002 - Organizational Management and Behavior
  • PUAD 5006 - Public Service Leadership and Ethics
  • PUAD 5260 - Managing for Social Equity
  • PUAD 5271 - Managing Conflict and Change
